How to create the perfect job posting
A good job posting is specific, honest and easy to read. This guide follows the four steps of the posting wizard – Basics, Details, Requirements, Settings – and shows what matters in each step.
Basics: title and description
The title is the first thing candidates see in the search results. Use the common job title and add at most one distinguishing feature, such as the workload or specialisation – for example "Accounting Clerk 80–100%". Internal titles or abbreviations are not found.
The description must be at least 50 characters long; good postings are considerably longer. A proven structure is: a short introduction to the company, the responsibilities of the role, and what you offer. Write in short paragraphs and use bullet lists for responsibilities.
Details: job type, work model and salary
In the second step you set the city, job type (full-time, part-time, temporary, internship, etc.), work model (on-site, hybrid, remote) and workload. These fields are required because candidates filter by them and job alerts are based on them.
Salary information is optional, but experience shows it increases the number of qualified applications. You can enter a range and decide whether it is publicly visible. Benefits such as training, extra vacation days or home-office arrangements are added in this step.
Keep requirements realistic
Choose the experience level and enter only the skills, qualifications and languages that are genuinely necessary. Distinguish between must-have and nice-to-have criteria: long wish lists deter suitable candidates, especially if they fall short on one or two points.
- Three to six must-have criteria are enough in most cases.
- Enter skills individually – they feed into AI matching.
- State language levels precisely (e.g. German C1, English B2).
Settings: scheduling, featured and urgent
In the final step you decide whether the posting goes live immediately or is published at a scheduled time – handy when preparing postings for Monday morning. Until publication the posting is stored as a draft and does not consume a job credit.
"Featured" highlights the posting in the search results, provided your package includes featured days. The "Urgent" label signals to candidates that the position needs to be filled quickly.
Review before publishing
Use the preview to see the posting exactly as candidates will. Check spelling, the contact person and whether the posting reads well on a smartphone. Publishing consumes one job credit from your package.
After publishing
Monitor views and applications in analytics. Few views point to an unclear title; many views without applications suggest requirements are too high or salary information is missing. Postings can be edited, refreshed or closed at any time.
Tip
Read your posting once from a candidate's point of view: is it clear within the first three sentences what the job is and why a move would be worthwhile? If not, move that information to the top.
